Algerian international Riyad Mahrez has revealed that he never knew Leicester City before he signed for the club in 2014.
The 25-year-old has been in inspiring form for the Foxes this season, scoring 14 goals with 11 assists do far as Claudio Ranieri lead the side towards their first League title in the top flight.
Amazingly, Mahrez moved to the King Power Stadium from Le Havre for a fee of just £320,000 and today he is wanted by Arsenal and Barcelona for a reported fee of about £25m.
In an interview with FourFourTwo for the magazine’s April issue, Mahrez said: “I didn’t know Leicester. In France we didn’t really [know them] because they were in the Championship. I thought they were a rugby club.
“I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ But then I came here to see the facilities and they were good. I do not regret signing for them, it’s the best club I’ve ever been at.”
Mahrez was in action yesterday for Leicester City as they battled to a 2-2 draw against West Brom and lead the premier league log by three points.
