Borussia Dortmund captain, Mats Hummels has vehemently denied reports linking him with a move to Bayern Munich even as he has labelled such as ‘nonsense’
The denial from Hummels is coming despite the fact that his side is understood to have released an official statement confirming their client’s intent to rejoin the Bavarians.
Hummels, a Bayern Munich youth academy product, has been linked with a return move to the Allianz Arena and Borussia Dortmund’s statement, which was released earlier this week, confirmed that he had informed the club of his desire to return to the Allianz Arena.
The German said, of the reports: “I have not offered myself anywhere. That is the greatest piece of nonsense I’ve ever heard.”
Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness apparently did not get the same memo as he corroborated reports that Hummels had been in contact.
“When somebody comes knocking on your door, Bayern would be ill advised to not open that door,” Hoeness said.
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quick to stress that Hummels had not made contact with the Bundesliga champions but that it was the other way around.
“Maybe Uli has not understood it correctly,” he said. “We were knocking on his door, not Hummels knocking on our door.
“Mats has not moved offensively towards us but we asked him whether he could imagine himself moving to Bayern.”
Dortmund fans for now have shown resent at Hummels asking to join their rivals.
