Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is at the twilight of his career and with injuries hampering him further, he hopes to lift a trophy for his nation before calling it a day.
Now he’s back in action and scored in Shanghai SIPG’s 4-0 win in the Chinese league.
Then he spoke about his hopes for Ghana in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
“If you look at what Ghanaians desire at the moment it’s the African Cup because it’s been long since we won it,” Gyan told Happy FM.
“I would pick winning the Africa Cup of nations trophy ahead of the world cup qualification if I am presented with choosing from of the two.”
Asamoah Gyan is the country’s highest scoring player in World Cup history with six goals, so the showpiece event does have a special spot in his heart.
“Both will be competitive but I will prefer to have us win the AFCON though I must admit the world cup qualification is also important.”
“But I must also admit that we are targeting both knowing very well that it would not be easy.”
