Pep Guardiola has said his Manchester City side will play their game and not try to adjust their style when they face his old club Barcelona in the Champions League tonight.
The Spaniard returns home to where he learnt his trade and first made his mark both as a player and manager, and with his City side now playing in a similar way to how his and the current Barcelona team plays, he says there will be no need to change patterns.
“We will try to be ourselves. I need to know some things about my team as quickly as possible. I have only been here at City a short time and I am still trying to learn about my players. This is a game that will help me,” he said.
“I know it is difficult but our plan is to have the ball. They can’t do anything to us if they don’t have it. To change the way we play, we don’t have time. It is impossible and the players would not believe me.
“We have to adjust because it is a special team we are playing. But we have to try to be ourselves as much as possible. So this is a good test to see what kind of moment we are in.”
This will be Guardiola’s second return to the Nou Camp since he left Barca in 2012, as he led Bayern Munich to the Catalan giants last season also in the Champions League.
