The newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Nick Mwendwa has received backing from the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Sports, Arts and Culture Hassan Wario as he settles into the new job following his election on Wednesday.
Mwendwa beat his closest challenger Ambrose Rachier by 50 to 27 votes in the elections conducted at the Moi Sports Center, Kasarani.
In his congratulatory message, Wario called on Mwendwa to be the lead actor in clearing the mess in Kenyan football, stating that the most important duty he has is ensuring there is transparency in football management in the country.
“The elections mark a new era in Kenyan football and a good beginning. I want to congratulate the newly elected team and as they ascend to office they need to know that there is a lot of work to be done in cleaning up football.
“Our football at the moment is in the High Dependency Unit and we need to address the issues affecting it but most importantly we need to ensure there is transparency,” he stated.
