The Gotv Shield entered the quarter final stage on Saturday 17 September with the first two matches being staged in Kisumu and National Super League (NSL) side KCB continued with their fine run, beating favorites Western Stima 4 – 3 on post match penalties at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
The two side played to a barren draw in regular time though Stima, who had registered a good run in the tournament, scoring 14 goals in the previous four rounds were culpable of big misses as the Bankers forced the game to penalties to break the tie.
Fred Shimonyo, Eston Esiye and Gabriel Andika all missed their kicks for Western Stima with John Odhiambo and Job Omuse missing for KCB.
In the other quarter final clash at the same venue, Ulinzi Stars survived a scare with the other giant killers, Nzoia United, coming from a goal down to send the tie to penalties and winning 4 – 2.
While the military side scored all their kicks, through Daniel Waweru, Mark Bikokwa, Enosh Ochieng and Geoffrey Kokoyo, misses by Moses Shavanga and goalkeeper Mangala lost it for Nzoia.
Meanwhile, the other match on the day was the rescheduled second round clash pitting Posta Rangers against Ushuru FC which also went on to penalties after a barren draw in regular time, Posta Rangers winning 5 – 4.
