Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia stayed on course for a treble in the season with a 4 – 2 win over Palos FC in a round of 16 GOtv Shield tie played on Wednesday 14 October at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani.
Gor Mahia never looked troubled by the third tier side and took the lead on the second minute with Victor Abondo scoring his tenth goal of the season after a lengthy slump but they were pegged back on the 18th minute with a Calvince Omanga leveler.
Gor Mahia reclaimed the lead on the half hour mark through Micahel Olunga who slammed home Meddie Kagere’s cut back after a counterattack and Abondo completed his brace seven minutes after the restart.
Calvince Omanga was on target yet again to cut Gor Mahia’s lead and while they fancied a chance at post match penalties, George Odhiambo struck to restore the two goal cushion.
Elsewhere, at the Nairobi City Stadium, Sofapaka and AFC Leopards played to a 1 – 1 draw in a rescheduled KPL clash.
Ivan Anguyo scored the opener for AFC Leopards from the penalty spot after a handball from Ezekiel Odera on the 45th minute to establish a slim lead going to the break.
Five minutes after resumption, Sofapaka had the chance to level from the penalty spot but David Mbakiye had his shot saved by Luccas Indeche.
They however got the leveler on the 65th minute courtesy of Collins Shivachi’s screamer from a free kick outside the box.
