Gor Mahia’s season just got better with a 1 – 0 win over Western Stima at the Kisumu County Stadium in a rescheduled league game on Wednesday 28 October.
Western Stima started well in the game passing well and shutting down Gor Mahia but in the end Michael Olunga netted the goal that separated the sides to stretch Gor Mahia’s leadership of the KPL log.
Within the opening five minutes Ali Abondo had forced Stima keeper Gabriel Andika to a fine save with a snap shot from 18 yards out and Michael Olunga had a lob that was saved by Andika before dipping down in goal.
Western Stima’s Wesley Kemboi and Gor Mahia’s Meddie Kagere also missed with some efforts from range and Olunga had the chance to open the scores with a free kick that bounced off the bar
Gor Mahia’s Khalid Aucho got close with a 30 – yard shot that Andika just managed to stop on the 69th minute and three minutes later Ali Abondo had a free kick deflect off the Stima wall before Olunga combined well with Innocent Wafula but Victor Ochieng sneaked in to break play.
Olunga then stole in on the first minute of time added on to head home an Abondo cross for the winning goal that saw Gor Mahia become the first team in the current KPL set up to hit 75 points.
