Gor Mahia’s stroll in the Kenyan Premier League continued on Wednesday 21 October with a 2 – 0 win over the 2009 KPL champions Sofapaka in a league match staged at the Nairobi City Stadium.
Heading to the game, Gor Mahia were clear favorites and did not disappoint, taking up early dominance and deservedly went ahead on the 24th minute with Ali Abondo rising high to touch on Karim Nizigiyimana’s cross past David Okello for the opening goal.
Sofapaka got a chance to level matters on the 60th minute after Gor Mahia keeper Boniface Oluoch fouled Felly Mulumba in the box to give away a penalty. Sofa skipper John Baraza stepped forward to take it but could not beat Oluoch who parried out for a corner.
The champions then made Sofapaka pay for the miss on the 77th minute with a Michael Olunga goal to secure the points.
The win sees Sofapaka remain third with 43 points but in real danger of falling further down while Gor Mahia stretched their leadership of the league to 69 points from 27 matches.
