The 2016 season of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) started on Saturday 13 February with a total of four matches on the cards while champions Gor Mahia were welcoming Madagascan opponents, CNaPS in the CAF Champions League.
Sofapaka were the biggest winners on the weekend, beating a more experienced Ushuru FC side 3 – 1 to register a perfect start to the season. The 2009 KPL champions fell behind to Roosevelt Blaty’s 12th minute goal but a Gerald Bagoole penalty and two goals in the second half from Heritier Luvualu and Brian Nyakan completed the comeback.
In Nakuru Ulinzi Stars started with a barren draw with Sony Sugar while in Thika, Mwinyi Kibwana netted the opener in the Thika United – Tusker game before Tusker’s Timonnah Wanyonyi and Michael Khamati turned it round.
At the Mumias Sports Complex, new boys Kakamega Homeboyx beat their arch rivals Western Stima 2 – 1.
Meanwhile, Enoch Agwanda was on the mark as Gor Mahia fell to CNaPS 2 – 1.
