Jose Mourinho had his first press conference since he was appointed Manchester United manager and used the opportunity to talk about the departure of club legend Ryan Giggs who left after 29 years of service.
The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager replaced Louis van Gaal after an underwhelming campaign that saw the Red Devils finish outside the top four and for the second consecutive season be playing Thursday night football in the Europa league.
Ryan Giggs had though the club will offer him the role as he has under studied Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, and Louis van Gaal but the management led by Ed Woodward appointed Jose Mourinho and that triggered the Walsh man departure as he announced in an emotional letter that he is leaving to pursue his dream of becoming a manager.
“I never run away from my responsibilities. The reality is it is not my responsibility Ryan is not in the club. The job Ryan wanted is the job the club decided to give me.
“It’s not my fault. Ryan wanted to be manger and the club, for reasons they can tell you, they decided the job was for me. He made a decision where you need to be brave.
“If one day he wants to be back to the club while I am here I would never stop him from coming back.”
Jose Mourinho will begin life as a Manchester United manager in the premier league when he leads the team out on August 13 in an away game against Bournemouth and will have his first game in front of home fans on August 20 when the Red Devils hosts Southampton at Old Trafford.
