While some African nations grow despondent about their patchy Africa Cup of Nations form and Fifa World Rankings, the Black Stars are the toast of the month in the continent.
They were impressive in that they beat Congo in their own backyard 3-2 in Brazzaville. Yes, it was a friendly but an impressive result all the same.
Then they beat Rwanda in the Afcon qualifiers to keep their qualification hopes very much on track.
Though, there’s two other African teams ahead of them in the Fifa Rankings. Algeria are in 19th and then the Ivory Coast in 21st spot in the world. Those two nations were already expected to be higher, since Ivory Coast won the last Afcon, while Algeria were the most impressive African nation in the 2014 Fifa World Cup. Ghana is a team looking to be on the rise.
Other positions for African teams on a global perspective include Tunisia (36th), Senegal (38th), Cape Verde (41st), Cameroon (48th), Congo (49th), Egypt (51st) and Nigeria (52nd).
This month Ghana has a chance for further improvement, being scheduled to face Canada away from home in Washington, USA on October 13.
