The Black Stars hoped to make Gideon Jung represent Ghana in senior international football, but the Germans have taken another step to convince him to play for the European nation instead.
Now Jung has been named in Germany’s 2016 Summer Olympic Games squad that will participate in Rio. He was actually called up for Germany U21 side in the past, but pulled out due to injury and so the Black Stars kept hopes of attracting him.
However they will keep trying until he is unable to, and that would be the case if Jung represents the full senior team one day.
“He [Jung] had a great start in the first round with a little trouble but he’s doing well now,” coach Horst Hrubesch told MOPO in Germany.
“I like him. We’ve been observing him intensely. It’s because of the way he plays.”
Jung has played well for Bundesliga outfit Hamburg this season. He has Ghanaian parents from Dusseldorf in Germany, which makes it possible to represent the Black Stars.
