Joel Fameyeh moved Ghana’s head slightly ahead of Cote d’Ivoire in the 2016 African Nations Championship qualifying first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.
Sangare Ibrahim scored the opener for the local Elephants, an important away goal after poor defending by Ghana.
Ivory Coast would’ve been sailing but then Joel Fameyeh scored the equaliser in 35th minute, and the half-time score stood at 1-1.
Coach Maxwell Konadu was frustrated that Ghana couldn’t make their domination count and feared the worst on the counter.
Fameyeh finally stamped home their authority in the 73rd minute, connecting his strike better and earning them a well deserved lead.
However they will have to hope to avoid defeat in the second leg to go to Rwanda 2016.
