Real Madrid’s fine run continued with the Spanish giants thumping hosts Getafe 5 – 1 in a Saturday 16 April La Liga clash staged at the Stadium
Cristiano Ronaldo should have opened the scores on the 16th minute but after doing everything right, he watched in agony as his low shot bounced off the post with the Getafe keeper Vicente Guaita well beaten.
However, it did not take long before the visitors took the lead, courtesy of Frenchman Karim Benzema’s effort on the 28th minute after fine work and cross from the right, delivered by Colombian James Rodriguez.
For a moment, the Getafe defence switched off and Rodriguez stole in on the right before floating the cross that was met by an unmarked Benzema who had just the keeper to beat.
Isco made it two after starting a fine move and finishing it off with a goal on the 39th minute off a Karim Benzema assist.
Benzema was at it again with a delightful lobbed assist to pick out Gareth Bale on the 49th minute for the Welshman to make in 3 – 0.
On the 74th minute, Real keeper Keylor Navas had to make a superb save to stop Getafe who had won a free kick in the six yard box after he handled Marcelo’s back pass.
The keeper could however do very little to stop Pablo Sarabia’s shot that deflected of Pepe as Getafe got a consolation goal.
James Rodriguez restored the three – goal cushion on the 88th minute and with the defence missing, Cristiano Ronaldo exchanged passes with Jese before the Portuguese star made it five.
