Ernst Middendorp has become the latest Absa Premiership coach to vacate his head coach post after quitting Free State Stars on Monday.
The club announced that the German had resigned, less than four months after replacing Kinnah Phiri, who was sacked following a poor start to the 2015/16 campaign.
“It is with great shock to announce the sudden resignation of head coach Ernst Middendorp from the club with immediate effect,” a statement from Ea Lla Koto read.
“In his resignation, Mr. Middendorp sent the General Manager, Rantsi Mokoena an email stating his immediate resignation sighting the reason as the severe limitation of PSL qualified players in the team.
“We wish Mr. Middendorp well in his future endeavours. The club will make announcement for his replacement in due course.”
The news will be a major blow to Stars after Middendorp guided them to a fourth win in eight league games at the weekend.
Stars, who beat Jomo Cosmos 1-0 to climb 10th, drew three of their other games and lost only once under the leadership of Middendorp.
