Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has urged his former side to sign Luka Modric, Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba during the summer transfer window in order to become a force in Europe once again. Scholes desire that the duo be bought over to Old Trafford.
There are likely to be plenty of incomings and outgoings after the current campaign has drawn to a close following yet another disappointing season for the Red Devils.
The Old Trafford outfit could also make a major change to their coaching staff with Jose Mourinho tipped to replace Louis van Gaal in the managerial hotseat.
Scholes has revealed he would raid Mourinho’s former side Real Madrid for two of their stars and bring a former United starlet back to the club if he was in control of signings.
Speaking to United We Stand fanzine, Scholes said of this summer’s transfer window: “I’d like Luka Modric. How old is he now? Might be a bit too old, but he’s a great player.
“I like Raphael Varane. I said realistic and I’m picking Real Madrid players?
“We probably need a centre forward but there’s not too many of them about so I’m going to say I’d like us to bring Paul Pogba back.”
Scholes, who played for Manchester United between 1992 and 2013, has not shied away from criticising his former employers in recent weeks.
He branded United ‘a shambles’ and questioned the current crop of players after their defeat by rivals Liverpool.
“They were a shambles,’ Scholes said on BT Sport. ‘The lack of quality and fight…when you are United, there are certain standards you have to be at, and they haven’t made them. When we were playing we were reaching them. These players are falling well short.”
