Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Technical Director Andreas Spiers has welcomed the invitation extended to the Kenya U17 national team by the COSAFA Secretariat to take part in the 20176 COSAFA U17 edition.
The team was invited to the tournament as a guest team, to take up Mozambique’s place at a time the team is in camp preparing for the game against Cameroon U17 in the qualifiers for the 2017 Africa U17 Championships.
Spiers taken charge of the team and says it will not be easy securing a slot at the finals in Madagascar in 2017 and ahead of the trip to Mauritius for the COSAFA U17 tournament, he says the experience will be good for the team.
“This tournament is a perfect preparation for the team ahead of international assignments. We are still building the team and we will be using this tournament to try and get the boys ready for the Cameroon game.
“We know Cameroon, and the other teams are also preparing well for the qualifiers and I know it will not be easy for us but I am confident that this group of players will give their best,” he said.
In the COSAFA U17 tournament, Kenya is pooled in Group B alongside Zambia, Madagascar and Malawi.
