The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended six match officials for the next for 90 days in a move aimed at clamping down on poor officiating.
Two of the suspended are FIFA Referees; Israel Mpaima whose officiating in two matches was questionable, and assistant referee Joshua Achilla. The others are center referee Zachariah Ashira, assistant referees Oliver Ouma and Godfrey Ndeva and match commissioner Dominic Weda.
While confirming the suspensions, the FKF President Nick Mwendwa stated that the National Executive Committee (NEC) found fault in five of 12 matches that were contentious and thus the move to suspend the officials who were in charge of the matches.
“We had 12 matches that had questions on the standard of officiating and the FKF NEC sat to deliberate on the same as part of the investigations into the complaints. Of the matches we found fault in five and thus the match officials entrusted with the matches had to be suspended.
“They will serve 90 – day suspensions each and in this period they will not be cleared for appointments and they will be retrained,” he said.
While at it, the president has also confirmed that the Referees’ Committee and the Referees’ Appointment Committee will be reconstituted.
