The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has lauded the election of Gianni Infantino as the ninth FIFA President in the Extraordinary FIFA Congress held in Zurich on Friday 26 February.
Mwendwa, who was part of the delegates voting at the event, stated that the election was a statement of generational shift in football governance as the 45 – year old replaces Sepp Blatter.
Mwendwa had earlier assured that he will vote for Sheikh Salman Ebrahim in the polls, in keeping with the CAF stand and even as Salman lost, Mwenda assured that he will work with the newly voted leader.
“His election signals a generational shift in the governance of football. That was the clear reflection at the end of the Zurich exercise. He is young and he comes in with a good image for football. I must say he did his home work very well just as we did,”
“Now that he is on board as FIFA boss we will work with him for the mutual benefit of our local and global football. We congratulate him on his election,” Mwendwa noted.
