The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has threatened to take action on the national team players and technical bench members reported to have gone on drinking spree in the aftermath of the loss to Zanzibar in the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge in Ethiopia.
Kenya lost 1 – 3 to Zanzibar in their final Group B game in Hawassa and afterwards reports trickled out that members of the team and bench went out at night and the federation, in a statement to media houses has said it will be doing its own investigations to get to the root of the matter.
It promises ‘drastic changes’ to the technical bench and tough disciplinary actions on the players following the incident.
Below is the FKF statement:
Football Kenya Federation has learned with great dismay of reports emanating from Ethiopia that there has been some isolated cases of indiscipline by some players.
It is indeed disturbing that despite the players signing a code of conduct while in camp ahead of the tournament some players have decided to ignore the technical bench instructions and have been reported to sneak out and in some instances partying after matches.
This kind of behavior will be no longer be entertained as it brings shame not only to FKF but the whole nation.
Our media has been awash with stories claiming that the team is cash strapped and now Kenyans are wondering how all of a sudden the players are reported to be in a party mood.
Also it has been established that some members of the technical bench are abetting this vice.
As a federation we ensured that the players every day basic needs are taken care of and the team management was given an imprest for this purpose.
In lieu of the ongoing reports the federation is pursuing independent reports from the tournament organizers and wish to assure all that drastic changes will be done in the technical bench and action taken against the players involved
On the same note let’s rally behind the team in the next round.
