The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has agreed to the invitation by COSAFA to send over an U17 team to take part in the COSAFA U17 tournament which is scheduled to run from July 22 in Mauritius.
Kenya was invited to take part as a guest team following the withdrawal of Mozambique earlier on and the FKF President Nick Mwendwa has confirmed they will be sending over a team.
He said the invitation comes at an opportune moment, when the team is preparing for the African U17 Championships qualifier against Cameroon and that it will be of great benefit for the team.
“We have the invitation to send over our U17 national team to play as a guest team at the COSAFA U17 tournament which starts later this month in Mauritius and I want to that we will be preparing the team for the same.
“The invitation has come at a time we need such competition and as a federation we believe it will help give the team the best preparations ahead of the U17 qualifier against Cameroon in August,” he said.
At COSAFA, Kenya U17 is drawn in Pool B alongside Zambia, Madagascar and Malawi who they play on July 22, 24 and 26, in that order.
