An all-African final is possible in the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup as Mali have joined Nigeria in the semi final.
Mali made the historic feat of progressing to the last four in the cadet championship as they recorded a 1-0 win over Croatia hours after defending champions booked their place with the victory over Brazil.
Sekou Koita’s first half effort was all Mali required seeing off the European side and send Dario Basic’s side home.
Mali’s only goal came when Sidiki Maiga expertly hooked a long crossfield ball back behind him as he sprinted towards the Croatian touchline. The 15-year-old forward followed up and hit a low shot left-footed into the bottom right-hand corner across Semper.
Despite the charge by Croatia, Mali held firm to secure their berth in the semi final and will head to La Serena for a final four showdown against either Belgium or Costa Rica, who face off in Concepcion on Monday.
