Ex-international Emeka Ezeugo has expressed sadness over the premature retirement of Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama from the Nigerian national team.
Enyeama who was capped 101 times pulled the curtain on his international career, 13 years after making his debut for the Super Eagles.
The record-capped goalkeeper was left humiliated by coach Sunday Oliseh at the team’s camp on Tuesday and has now announced his retirement following that holy incident.
“I wish Oliseh was not the reason he (Enyeama) took a bow prematurely,” Ezeugo wrote on his Facebook wall. ”I’d have loved seeing him rise way above this challenge, play the bigger and more enlightened man that he is instead of going down this bloody road.
Enough respect, love and admiration for all that you gave Nigeria. Sporting regards, Enyeama. Enjoy your club football,” he added.
Nigeria lost their first game of the post Enyeama era 2-0 to DR Congo in an international friendly played in Belgium yesterday.
