Enyimba attacker Ezekiel Bassey has admitted he is worried about their profligacy in front of goal, ahead of the start of the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The Nigerian champions begin their title defense in Port Harcourt against Rivers United on Sunday, but have struggled to score goals this year, starting from the Super 4 pre-season tournament and their CAF Champions League opener against Vipers of Uganda.
They have created chances, but have failed to put the ball at the back of the net as often as they should and Bassey admits he is worried.
“We have not been scoring goals and it is not good for us,” he told fcnaija.com. “We have been creating a lot chances but we haven’t been converting most of them.
“We probably have to go to the drawing board because we are playing Rivers United on Sunday,” he said.
When asked what could be the reason for their lack of goals, the Nigeria international said he wasn’t sure what the problem could be.
“I really don’t know, honestly. I don’t know what the problem is and maybe the coach will have to answer that, but I honestly do not know and it is troubling.
“The same thing happened in the Charity Cup match against Akwa United, where we created chances but couldn’t convert any. It is not good at all,” he added.
The 19-year old winger was one of Enyimba’s stand-out performers last term and will be hoping to carry on the form into the new season.
