Fcnaija.com can confirm that Kenneth Omeruo is out of Nigeria’s Olympic Games squad after weeks of doubts over his availability.
The defender is discussing a loan move to Turkish champions Besiktas from Chelsea and as a result, couldn’t guarantee his availability for the Games.
An fcnaija.com source revealed that the timing of the deal with Besiktas which hasn’t yet been finalized, meant Nigeria Olympic team coach Samson Siasia had to opt for other options as he submitted his final 18-man list last week.
“He (Omeruo) is still trying to sort out his move to Besiktas as they are still discussing with Chelsea, so his availability couldn’t be guaranteed,” the source informed.
“The final 18-man list and four-man standby list were submitted last week and Omeruo isn’t in it,” the source confirmed.
It will be recalled that the 22-year old had earlier pulled out of the Games on doctor’s orders, but later made himself available.
The latest development however means he will not be going to Brazil with the Nigeria U23 squad.
Meanwhile, the team will play their final test game in the United States against Honduras on the 27th, before travelling Brazil for the Games.
They are in group B along with Japan, Colombia and Sweden.
