Nigeria Under-23 captain Okechukwu Azubuike is set to seal a deal with sportswear giants, Nike, fcnaija has exclusively gathered.
The 18-year old, who recently made his debut for the Super Eagles in the 1-0 loss in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last Tuesday, has been sent two pairs of boots by the American sportswear giants, with a view to sealing a deal in the coming days.
Fcnaija understands that while the player is yet to sign with Nike, he will wear a pair of their boots this weekend when his club, Yeni Matalyaspor takes on Balikesirspor in the Turkish PTT 1 Lig on Sunday.
The fine details of the proposed deal is however unclear at this point, but fcnaija understands it will be a one year contract with the option to extend.
The midfielder has been a revelation for Nigeria since leading the Nigerian Under-23’s to the All Africa Games in Congo last year, as well as leading them to win the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal last December.
If he agrees a deal with Nike, he will join several other Nigerian internationals who dorn the apparels of the American kit makers like John Obi Mikel, and Ahmed Musa.
Nike has also branded some former Nigeria internationals in the past, like Nwankwo Kanu and Emmanuel Amuneke.
Meanwhile, Azubuike has since joined up with his club in Turkey after the Super Eagles’ loss to Egypt in Alexandria.
He is expected to lead the Dream Team Six, as the present Nigerian Under-23 is called, to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero in Brazil, later this year.
