John Obi Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi and Odion Ighalo have been included in the provisional list of players for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games as possible over-aged players, fcnaija has exclusively gathered.
The trio are in the list of overseas-based players sent to the Nigeria Football Federation by Samson Siasia and could make the final list to the Games, as the three required over-aged players.
Mikel, who plays for Chelsea in England and is currently the Super Eagles captain, has reportedly expressed his desire to play at the Olympics – the only major football tournament he is yet to attend at senior level.
While Ighalo, also a Nigeria international at senior level and plays for Watford also in England hasn’t said much about playing at the Games, it is believed he will not turn down the opportunity as he missed the last edition in London due to Nigeria’s failure to qualify.
Onazi, is also an established Nigeria international, who plays for Lazio in Italy and has been listed alongside Mikel and Ighalo.
It will be recalled that fcnaija also revealed that another established Super Eagle, Kenneth Omeruo had been included in the list, a development which was somewhat confirmed by the player himself in an interview with Chelsea’s official website.
