The EPL title race approaches a potentially defining weekend and here we take a look at the mouth-watering round of fixtures which sees the current top four face off on Super Sunday.
Arsenal v Leicester City
Leaders Leicester travel to the Emirates Stadium looking to continue their remarkable rise against an Arsenal side hoping to keep their hopes of a first title in 12 years alive but a history of 12 defeats and zero wins in the last 18 Barclays Premier League matches against the Gunners stare them in the face.
Arsenal have earned victory in their last eight home top-flight meetings with Leicester. Three of the four players to have had a hand in 20+ goals in the EPL this season will play in this match – Riyad Mahrez (24), Jamie Vardy (21) and Mesut Ozil (20).
On the last 11 occasions that Arsenal have faced a team that was top of the Premier League, they have won just once (D4 L6) and scored only four goals (conceding 18).
Who will have the day in Emirates showdown? My prediction is Arsenal looks good for a win or draw bet.
Manchester City v Tottenham
From a honest point of view, I don’t see Spurs winning this EPL encounter as they lack the pace on the counter like Leicester do, therefore it is will be a bit difficult for them to hurt hurt Manchester City at the Etihad.
Manchester City have won eight and lost two of the last 10 league meetings with Tottenham Hotspur, including victories in the last five encounters at the Etihad Stadium.
However, the Citizens have not beaten any side currently in the top six of the BPL table this season (W0 D3 L4). The last nine Barclays Premier League matches between these two sides have seen 41 goals scored.
With the availability of Sergio Aguero who has scored 10 goals in eight top-flight appearances against Spurs, the home side look good for a win while Spurs in my opinion are only good enough for a point.
Chelsea vs Newcastle
Chelsea have become a different side under Guus Hiddink with the players wanting to have a go, having really picked up momentum wince Jose Mourinho’s exit. Newcastle’s away form has not been top notch compared to their impressive home performances.
The reigning champions have long been consigned to losing their crown following a disappointing start to the season, but they are unbeaten in nine league matches since Guus Hiddink took over as manager.
Newcastle United have taken more points off Chelsea (13) than any other team in the last five seasons. In the last 11 meetings between Chelsea and Newcastle, the Blues have failed to win when they did not keep a clean sheet (D3 L4).
Guus Hiddink has still only lost one of his 21 matches as a Barclays Premier League manager (W13 D7 L1) and is unbeaten in his last 16. Chelsea are on the current longest unbeaten run in the BPL, nine matches (W3 D6 L0). My prediction is a win in favor of Chelsea.
BUNDESLIGA WEEK 21 FIXTURES
The Bundesliga’s finest will again be jostling for position this weekend, but as ever there is more bubbling away beneath the surface than meets the eye.
Dortmund vs Hannover 96
Borussia Dortmund who have struggled uncharacteristically in their last two Bundesliga matches welcome rock-bottom Hannover 96 to the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
Hannover sit bottom because of defeats in each of the last six matches, including the first three under their new coach Thomas Schaaf. The 96ers have lost the last six on the spin in the top-flight and have have only scored 19 goals this season – one fewer than Dortmund top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who continued his remarkable form in Stuttgart by scoring once and setting up both other goals.
Dortmund dropped their first points of 2016 in the capital last weekend, but remain the best side ever to be placed second after 20 Matchdays. Hannover have lost six games in a row for the first time in six years and with 14 defeats after 20 games, Dortmund who are unbeaten in 13 home games should win this one as they keep pace with leaders Bayern Munich.
Augsburg vs Bayern
Neighbouring FC Augsburg provide the next test for title-chasing FC Bayern München when the two clubs meet on Sunday evening at the WWK Arena.
After seven matches unbeaten, Augsburg suffered their first defeat in three months against Ingolstadt while Bayern maintained their eight-point lead over second place with last weekend’s draw at Leverkusen.
The home side who have conceded 28 goals in 20 league games will have their work load cut out for them as they come up against FC Bayern München’s dynamic duo of Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski who have now scored a combined 50 goals in 60 games this season.
How will it end after 90 minutes at the WWK Arena? A win or draw bet on Bayern Munich should do.
PRIMERA DIVISIÓN WEEK 24 FIXTURES
Real Madrid vs Athletic Club
Zinedine Zidane and his troops welcome sixth placed Athletic Bilbao to the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday as they aim to close the gap on leaders Barcelona and second placed and City rivals Atletico Madrid.
Athletic Bilbao have lost all of their last 11 visits in all competitions, conceding a combined 27 goals in the six most recent fixtures.
Madrid have taken 13 points from Zinedine Zidane’s five Liga games in charge, keeping them in touching distance with fierce rivals Barcelona. My take is, Real Madrid will edge their visitors on Saturday and leapfrog their city rivals Atleitco to apply a degree of pressure on the Catalans.
