French international Anthony Martial has revealed that former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra helped convince him to move to Old Trafford from AS Monaco.
The 20-year-old signed a long-term deal that could reportedly rise as high as £58m to become the most a expensive teenager in world football and has immediately settled into life in England.
Asked who he sought from advice prior to the move, Martial conceded that ex-United left-back Evra – now of Juventus – spoke very positively about life at Old Trafford.
“You also have Pat Evra who lives in the same town as me in France and who has only had good things to say to me about the club,” the striker told MUTV.
“He told me it was a club of champions, a club that above else wants to win and certainly since I’ve arrived here I’ve felt that for myself too.”
Martial has scored nine goals in his debut season for the Red Devils so far and Louis van Gaal’s men are still in hunt for the Premier League title this season.
