Following his brace in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s, Super Eagles and Manchester City’s forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been named in the EPL team of the week following the conclusion of match day 36 fixtures.
The only silver lining on an otherwise disappointing afternoon at St Mary’s was another excellent display by Iheanacho who added another two goals to his already impressive tally this campaign.
After reducing the deficit in the first half, Iheanacho who was the Blues’ best player on the day – refused to accept the game was completely a lost cause as he deliciously curled a dipping shot over Forster on 78 minutes to give the travelling support something to cheer on an otherwise miserable afternoon.
The Nigerian international is being joined in the squad by Ghanaian super star Andre Ayew whose double strike saw Swansea swim out of the relegation waters with two games left to play in the current campaign.
Ayew started the season on fire with Swansea but as his team’s form dipped, the former Marseille man got affected too. However, the talented youngster was back to his best in the game against Liverpool, scoring twice against the team he once offered to play for free.
Ayew’s header put Francesco Guidolin’s side 1-0 up at the Liberty and when he extended the lead after the break for his tenth league goal of the season, the Swans could finally celebrate Premier League survival after what has been a tough season.
