Algerian star Riyad Mahrez and his Premier League title winning Leicester team-mates have accounted for half the 10 nominees for the Barclays Premier League Player of the Season award shortlist.
The Premier League Player of the Season is an annual association football award presented to players in England, which recognizes the most outstanding player in the Premier League each season.
The recipient is chosen by a panel assembled by the league’s sponsor – currently Barclays – consisting of members of “football’s governing bodies, the media and fans”, and is announced in the second or third week of May
Riyad Mahrez, already named PFA Player of the Year, is on a 10-man shortlist along with Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year Jamie Vardy.
N’Golo Kante, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and captain Wes Morgan are also in the running along with West Ham’s Dimitri Payet and Mesut Ozil of Arsenal.
The final three nominees come from Tottenham – top scorer Harry Kane, PFA Young Player of the Year Dele Alli and defender Toby Alderweireld.
The winner of the award, inaugurated in 1995 and chosen by a panel featuring administrators, fans and members of the media – will be announced on Friday.
