Liverpool’s defensive midfielder Emre Can hurt his ankle in Tuesday’s League Cup victory against Burton.
Can hasn’t started a Premier League game so far this season, and is set to miss out for the third time away to Tottenham this weekend.
The German midfielder was eased into the campaign, due to featuring until the semi-finals in Euro 2016.
“Emre is nothing really serious but it’s his ankle, where he had a few problems in the past. He should not be out for long, but maybe the Tottenham game will come too soon.
“I’m not sure that he will be available.”
Can’s injury will be a bigger blow since the only other defensive midfielder at the club, Lucas Leiva has also been out through injury.
Captain Jordan Henderson has come under much stick for playing poorly in that unfamiliar position against Burnley.
