Former Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike is the new bride at Upton Park following his brace for West Ham in their 5-1 rout of Blackburn in the fifth round of the FA Cup and Hammers Captain Mark Noble has expressed an ‘over the moon’ feeling towards the Nigerian.
Emenike started his first game for the Hammers since he joined on loan last month and impressed to the delight of the travelling fans who cheered his every move at Ewood Park.
West Ham fell behind to a Ben Marshall’s effort from 20 yards but they hit back when Nigerian star Victor Moses levelled from a similar angle. Dimitri Payet scored from a freekick to give the Hammers the lead before scoring a solo goal.
However, it was all about Emenike as he swept in his first goal from close range and rounded Blackburn’s goalkeeper Jason Steele to score again for a comprehensive 5-1win.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Noble said: “Obviously we lost out on Andy (Carroll) during the week but Emenike has come in and has been great for us today.
“I have said what I think about him. He is a top player and a top pro. To be fair Dimitri has been there and scored goals but Emenike has come in for his first start and to get a couple of goals in the FA Cup is fantastic for him.
“He has waited a long time to get this move into the Premier League and I am over the moon for him. You can see how happy he is.
“You can see the options we had from the bench today with Songy and Manuel coming on which is great. We are looking strong. It was a tough opening 20 minutes and it was what we expected from a proud club but we got hold of the game and got back into it with a couple of bits of magic.”
West Ham will play the winner between Manchester United and Shrewsbury Town in the quarter final.
