Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile has rued Monaco’s 1-1 draw against Olympique Lyon in Friday’s Ligue 1 clash at the Louis Stadium.
Echiejile who made his third start of the season in the encounter played as a centre half for the ten man Monaco but was disappointed at Rafeal’s leveller five minutes from time after Mario Pasalic’s 39th minute goal had shot the hosts into the lead.
“They were lucky to leave with a point and that hurts,” he began in a chat with 366football.com after the game.
“But it was comfortable for me playing in the central defence role for the team. But that all changed when Wallace was sent off,” he admitted.
The Nigerian international who is looking forward to Monaco’s Europa league clash at home to Qarabag refuses to rule his side out out contention for the the title despite been 11 points adrift defending champions PSG.
“Our next game (against Qarabag) is a must win because we’ve had three draws now on the bounce,” the 27 year old revealed.
“The season is just ten games in and you never can tell what strings of result either team can get but as a team we are hopeful of the best which the competitions we feature in brings our way,”
Monaco are tenth on the Ligue 1 log with 14 points from 10 games this season.
