Diego Costa is set for a return to Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club prepares a bid to lure him back to the Vicente Calderon, reports have suggested.
Atletico sold him to Chelsea for £32m two years ago but there are doubts the striker has fully adapted to life in London.
Chelsea however continue to insist the Brazil-born Spain international is not for sale, but they have signed Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, and are on the trail of another Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who they themselves sold out two years ago.
Chelsea’s insistence notwithstanding, Atletico are believed to be readying a bid in the region of £40m as Diego Simeone bids to shore-up his squad and challenge for the La Liga title next season after coming up short late on last term.
Costa scored 56 times for the Rojiblanco over a two-year period and helped them win the La Liga title two seasons ago.
Antonio Conte has inherited a team that struggled last season and is looking to get them firing again, hence the signing of Batshuayi and the potential signing of Lukaku.
While the Blues will be understandly reluctant to sell Costa, it is believed they won’t stand in his way once they can get a good amount for him and also secure a capable replacement, with Lukaku looking like the replacement.
