The office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday 28 December recommended for the prosecution of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya over misappropriation of funds meant for the national team.
The DCI has been looking into a case where some US$ 170000 which approximately Kshs 17m meant to cater for the national team’s trip to Cape Verde in November was spent.
Nyamweya was earlier in November called in for questioning over the sage after the government, through the ministry of sports had released the funds and in the release by the DCI, the FKF chief is supposed to be charged alongside the FKF CEO Michael Esakwa and acting Finance Manager Samson Cherop.
The DCI has forwarded the case to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), who confirmed that the trio will be charged with conspiracy to defraud.
“The three will be charged with offences of conspiracy to defraud, stealing by agent and fraudulent false accounting.”
“The case is now being “independently reviewed and decisions thereon made shortly based on evidence and the law,” the DPP stated.
