David Alaba is reportedly keen to make a move to Spain where he is favourably disposed to signing for Barcelona .
However, according to reports in Catalunya, Alaba has equally dropped a caveat that he would only agree to a Barca move if he will be allowed to play in central midfield role.
The Austrian international who is of Nigerian descent is highly-rated by the Nou Camp scouts and he is one of Barca’s top targets as they look for a top, young central defender in the summer transfer window.
Mundo Deportivo, a Barcelona-based sports daily, claims that not only have the European champions contacted Alaba but they have established that the 23-year-old would like to play for the Blaugrana.
However, Alaba has told Barca the same thing that he has told Bayern – he wants to play in midfield.
The Vienna-born star emerged as a left-back in Munich, but this season he has also operated regularly in central defence.
While he has performed creditably well in both roles, Alaba believes that playing in the defence as he often does is preventing him from showing his true ability and he has communicated to both his current club and prospective employers that he wishes to operate in central midfield, as he does at international level.
