Super Eagles star Mikel Obi is set to anchor Chelsea’s midfield in today’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg match against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint German.
The Chelsea Vice-Captain was rested at the weekend as the current premier league champions saw off the challenge of Newcastle with a comfortable 5-1 win to hand manager Guus Hiddink his first home win in his second spell as care-taker manager at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel and teammates were knockout of the same competition last season by PSG who are currently unbeaten in the French league and considered favourites to go through but Chelsea manager Hiddink insists his side can cause an upset as long as they show no fear.
“They have much more rest than we have but we must consider when the Premier League teams play in Europe to give them an extra day’s recovery,” said Hiddink after the Newcastle match.
“The second day after a performance with intensity is for rest and recovery, but we have to prepare for this game.
“It will be much more difficult [against PSG], but this game gave confidence to the team. We have to go there and play with the confidence we showed today.”
Chelsea currently sit 12th on the premier league log with 33 points with 12 matches left to be played.
