Chelsea have completed the signing of Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina, the English club have confirmed.
The 25-year old underwent a successful medical after both clubs agreed a fee in the region of £23m in time to beat the 11pm transfer deadline.
Chelsea an d Fiorentina had been involved in talks over the last few days for the left-back, and they sought adequate cover following Baba Rahman’s loan move to Shalke 04 and Kenedy also joining Watford on loan.
Alonso comes with Premier League experience, having played for Bolton Wanderers between 2010 and 2013.
After putting pen to paper for a return to England, he said: “I’m very happy. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the perfect place for me to continue developing.
“It’s time for me to win some titles. It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me.
“My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for so I’m really excited about the challenge and I’m looking forward t working with my new team-mates.”
The Spaniard began his career at Real Madrid but made just one appearance in La Liga. He made 35 appearances for Bolton in the league, before being sold to Fiorentina in 2013.
