Ex AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia is set to be unveiled as a Chelsea player after his agent Federico Pastorello said on social media that a deal had been struck.
Chelsea took Amelia on trial at the end of last month as they weighed up a move for the free agent.
Amelia, 33, was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning squad and is a free agent after leaving Perugia earlier this year, having initially dropped five divisions to kickstart his career at amateur side Rocca Priora last October.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho currently only has one senior goalkeeper at his disposal in Asmir Begovic, with Thibaut Courtois sidelined with a serious knee injury is keen to add an experience goalkeeper to his ranks rather than gamble on youngster Jamal Blackman.
Amelia now looks set to provide competition for Begovic, with his agent, Federico Pastorello, writing on Instagram: “Dinner with #marcoamelia to celebrate the contract with @chelseafc !!! Good luck !”
Chelsea are able to sign free agents having named only 19 players over 21 in their 25-man Premier League squad.
