Chelsea’s problems deepened as Southampton battled back to beat the Premier League champions 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 3 October.
Willian bent a free kick into the top corner from wide on the left — but that was as good as things got for Jose Mourinho’s struggling side.
Southampton equalised shortly before the break when Graziano Pelle chested the ball into the path of Steven Davis, who smashed a low drive past Asmir Begovic from the edge of the box.
Chelsea endured another dismal afternoon as they were beaten by Southampton.
Begovic made a fine save from Sadio Mane early in the second half, but the Southampton attacker got the better of him on the hour when Gary Cahill gave possession away and John Terry failed to cut out Pelle’s pass.
And Pelle wrapped up an outstanding victory for the Saints when, after Chelsea had lost possession again, he fired home from the right-hand side of the area.
There were boos from the home fans when substitute Nemanja Matic was himself substituted and further discontentment at the full-time whistle as Chelsea’s early-season worries deepened still further.
