Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has apologized for his team’s failure to progress beyond the group stages of the 2016 CHAN tournament.
The Nigerian team was eliminated after losing their final group game to Guinea 1-0, despite entering the match as the group leaders and needing just a point to progress.
Speaking after the game, Oliseh apologized for his team’s failure and said they never planned to exit the competition so early.
“We apologize to Nigerians for this loss; we never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best,” he was quoted on the team’s official twitter handle.
The competition was the first real test for Oliseh as the Nigeria coach, and the biggest test of his career, but he failed after starting the competition brightly.
Nigeria finished third in the last edition under former coach Stephen Keshi in South Africa two years ago.
