The home-based Super Eagles team have settled down briskly in Kigali and have even gone ahead with their first training session hours after arriving in Rwanda from Pretoria for the African Nations Championships, CHAN.
The Super Eagles ‘B’ team which spent two weeks perfecting pre-Championship strategies and tactics at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria, after spending another two weeks at a training camp in Abuja are hoping to go all the way in Rwanda.
It was gathered that Nigeria’s acting High Commissioner to Rwanda, Ferdinand Nwonye visited the team in Friday’s evening training where he assured the team of all the support at his disposal.
The CHAN Eagles are beaming with confidence having stayed unbeaten in all their test games; thumping PSL side University of Pretoria 3-0, drew 1-1 with 2011 CHAN runners-up Angola and piped Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in friendlies.
The Eagles campaign will be starting on Monday as they take on the Mena of Niger Republic at the Stade Regional de Nyamirambo, Kigali, starting from 6pm Rwanda time (4pm Nigeria time).
Nigeria will also play Tunisia – champions of the 2nd edition of the competition in Sudan five years ago – at the same Stade Regional de Nyamirambo on Friday, 22nd January, before traveling to Gisenyi to play Guinea at the Rubavu Stadium on Tuesday, 26th January.
