Super Eagles and Abia Warriors defender, Austin Obaroakpo will not be part of the Nigeria’s opening match at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) game against Niger Republic on Monday.
Obaroakpo is out of group opener owing to card offences and the development has also been confirmed by the Eagles Team coordinator, Patrick Pascal who told NPFL.ng that they are all aware of the situation around the affected defender.
Nigeria edged out Burkina Faso during the qualifiers over two legs, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) combative defender got booked in both fixtures.
“He will miss the first game on Monday due to suspension, but we don’t need to panic. Although, he’s a top player and important figure in the team.
“I think the good thing about this team is that we have quality players in the squad. Every player are equal to the task. I’m confident it won’t affect the team,” Pascal said.
Though Obaroakpo and Jamiu Alimi of Shooting Stars have formed a dependable partnership in heart of the Super Eagles defence since the qualifiers and test games, it is expected that the Eagles’ handlers will be able to get in a capable replacement for Monday’s duel.
Lobi Stars Samson Gbadebo and Sunshine Stars defender, Stephen Eze are in contention to replace the suspended Obaroakpo.
