Assistant Super Eagles Coach Salisu Yusuf has called on Nigerians to pray for the Home Based Eagles team as they fight to win the trophy at this month’s African Nations Championships, CHAN.
In a chat with 366football.com at the Muratla Muhammed Airport in Lagos just before the home-based team departed Nigeria for a training camp in Pretoria, Coach Salisu stated that the coaching crew have carefully selected the best home legs and with prayers from Nigerians, the team should return from Rwanda with the trophy.
“ We want Nigerians to support us with their prayers, we don’t expect an easy outing but the target is the trophy I must say, we have selected a crop of quality players that have been doing well for their various clubs, we are confident they would deliver” the Coach stated.
The home-based Eagles team are housed in Group C of this year’s championship alongside 2011 winners Tunisia, Niger Republic and Guinea, with matches to be played at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo, Kigali.
Nigeria finished third at the last edition held in South Africa in 2014 but Sunday Oliseh’s invigorated squad have their eyes on winning the Cup in Rwanda on February 7.
Already Coach Oliseh has released the list of 23 players to don the country’s colours in Rwanda.
Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, defenders Austin Oboroakpo and Chima Akas, Olympic Team midfielders Usman Mohammed and Yaro Bature and forward Chisom Chikatara headline a list that also includes Enyimba FC’s skillful winger Ezekiel Bassey, former junior international Ifeanyi Mathew and the Sunshine Stars’ trio of Paul Onobi, Prince Aggrey and Tunde Adeniji.
Former junior international goalkeeper Femi Thomas, Shooting Stars’ central defender Jamiu Alimi and former Supersand Eagles’ ace Bartholomew Ibenegbu have also been included.
The Eagles B team will play two friendly games against fellow Rwanda –bound Angola and Cote d’Ivoire on January 6 and 11 respectively.
