Katsande scored the only goal
Kaizer Chiefs only just beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in their PSL clash on Sunday afternoon, to remain in the title race.
A cracking shot from George Maluleka in the 11th minute came close to opening the scoring. A loose ball outside the Celtic area fell kindly for the Chiefs man who struck the shot with force but it went wide.
Celtic had a penalty appeal turned down in the 13th minute when Eric Mathoho seemed to clumsily tread on Gabadinho Mhango, who went down. However, the referee gave the Celtic striker a yellow card for simulation.
After 35 minutes a through-ball found Camaldine Abraw down the left, then created a cross for Siphiwe Tshabalala whose header floated to the far post where Maluleka found the side netting. It was a great chance that went begging.
Tshabalala played a good pass to Renielwe Letsholonyane in the 59th minute, who smashed a first-time shot which was finger-tipped over the cross-bar by Tignyemb.
Substitute and new Chiefs signing William Twala cut inside from the right and unlashed a low shot which beat Tignyemb, but it hit the up-right as Chiefs continued to press Celtic.
Amakhosi’s pressure finally paid off in the 71st minute when Aphiwe Lubisi fouled former Orlando Pirates winger Twala at the back post and the match referee pointed to the spot-kick .
Zimbabwe captain Willard Katsande then stepped up and sent Tignyemb the wrong way to make it 1-0 to Celtic from the penalty spot.
Nevertheless, Chiefs managed to contain Celtic in the remaining minutes and the match ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors.
