With rumors of an imminent sack looming over Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez rife in the media, one man being linked with the job is Italian Fabio Capello, a vastly experienced coach who has had two stints at the Spanish giants previously.
However, the Italian finds the link a big joke after his latest stint at the Madrid side saw him sacked despite winning the league title. Asked of the link in an interview on Spanish TV, Cuatro, Capello dismissed the link.
Capello was at the Real Madrid helm in the 1996 – 97 and 2006 – 07 seasons and asked about a third stint, the 69 – year old declined to even talk about it as he thought it was a bad joke.
“Is this a joke? No, no, no. I don’t want to talk about this because it’s a joke. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” he said.
Real Madrid has so far lost three league matches, one of those a 4 – 0 thrashing by arch rivals Barcelona and it is thought the club management will run out of patience with Benitez with another loss in the winter.
Real Madrid youth team coach Zinedine Zidane remains the favorite to take over should Benitez leave the Santiago Bernabeu, while Jose Mourinho has also been linked with the job.
