Head Coach of the Nigeria U-23 team, Samson Siasia has declared that he would be lying to say he believed that his team would emerge champions at the just concluded Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal.
Speaking with 366football.com on arrival from Senegal on Thursday, Coach Siasia said he was only hoping to get one of the Rio Olympics tickets up for grabs but he was grateful to his players and Nigerians as well going the extra mile for the top prize.
“Our preparations was not the best at all, we had just 12 days in Gambia, I was only hoping we get one of the tickets to the Olympics. I really have to thank my players and Nigerians for their prayers, wining the trophy was like a icing on the cake” the excited Coach stated
Two goals from Oghenekaro Etebo in the first half was enough to see Nigeria emerge as champions of the second edition of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations as the Dream Team VI beat Algeria 2-1 at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar.
Nigeria will now head to the Olympics as African Champions and will be joined by the duo of Algeria and South Africa.
