Head Coach of the Nigeria U-23 team Samson Siasia is a happy man after leading the Dream Team VI to qualifying for the Rio Olympics in style with victory over hosts, Senegal on Wednesday.
Siasia who has had to grapple with a lot of issues on and off the pitch in the run to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations admitted that it was a huge relief to achieve the main task of qualifying for next year’s Olympic Games.
“I’m very happy to win against Senegal again after the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992 and achieving our objective, which was to qualify for the Olympics”. an elated Siasia stated at the post-match press conference.
He added: “I think the ‘gods of football’ were with my team today because Senegal created most of the chances but they failed to score.
Etebo Oghenekaro’s penalty in the 75th minute-his third of the tournament was all the Dream Team VI needed to ease past the hosts after Ousseynou Thioune had handled the ball in his penalty area to prevent Eyo Ebong from scoring.
